How long does an HVAC system last in our climate?
In the Chicago area, most furnaces last 15–20 years and air conditioners 12–18 years, depending on use and maintenance. Once a system passes that range or needs frequent repairs, we'll walk you through repair-vs-replace as if it were our own home.
What is R-454B, and why does it matter for a new system?
R-454B is the lower-global-warming refrigerant that replaced R-410A in new air conditioners and heat pumps as part of the 2025 transition. We install current-standard equipment so your investment stays compliant and serviceable — and because it's a mildly flammable (A2L) refrigerant, a properly trained, permitted install matters more than ever.
How often should I schedule maintenance?
We recommend two visits a year — a spring tune-up for your AC and a fall tune-up for your heating system. Seasonal maintenance keeps efficiency high, catches small issues early, and protects your manufacturer warranty.
Should I repair or replace my furnace or AC?
It depends on the system's age, the cost of the repair versus a replacement, and how long you'll stay in the home. Our rule is the “our own home” test — we'll tell you which option makes sense, and we'll never push a replacement when a fair repair will do.
What does a new furnace or AC cost?
It varies widely — the equipment is only part of the job. Your home's size, ductwork, efficiency level, and what's behind the walls all move the number, so any exact price quoted sight-unseen is a guess. We give you one upfront flat rate after seeing your home.
